Sonic the Hedgehog 2 follows the “little ball of energy in an extremely handsome package” as he sets out on a globe-trotting quest for adventure. He’s joined by a new partner, Knuckles the Echidna (voiced by Idris Elba), who joins forces with Dr. Robotnik in search for the Master Emerald, which is powerful enough to destroy worlds.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) returns in this sequel to Green Hills, Montana, with a plan to become the best hero he can be. He’s been house-sitting for his adoptive parents Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie (Tika Sumpter), while they attend a wedding in Hawaii.
But Sonic isn’t just trying to be a hero—he’s also learning about the importance of family and friends. This time, his adventures take him to a planet where he must battle Dr. Robotnik and his new partner, Knuckles, in search of a powerful emerald that can give unlimited power to its possessor.
While it may not be perfect, this sequel is still a lot of fun, with plenty of great animation and lovable characters to keep kids and adults entertained. If you’re a fan of the video games, you’ll appreciate this movie even more than the first. If you’re looking to watch a classic platformer, then 123 Movies Sonic 2 is for you. The movie is based on the Sega video game of the same name.
Robotnik gets a lot closer to the character’s video game look in “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” The ridiculous mustache, bald head, and beady-eyed goggles are a big part of that transformation.
He is an egomaniacal, sociopathic misanthrope. He resents human beings, viewing them as inefficient creatures of hubris and desire.
As a result, he values only robotics. He is especially proud of his Badnik drones, which he considers to be relentless and effective.
When he first encounters Sonic, he sees him as a threat. He uses Knuckles the Echidna to take Sonic to the Master Emerald, which he hopes will give him power.
However, his treachery led to his downfall when he betrayed Knuckles for the Emerald and helped Tails defeat him. His downfall also left him in a state of depression, which was exacerbated by his obsession with Sonic.
Knuckles the Echidna
Knuckles is a speedy red anthropomorphic short-beaked echidna who is Sonic’s best friend and former rival. Determined and serious, but sometimes gullible, Knuckles punches enemies with brute force.
He is also the guardian of the Master Emerald, a huge gemstone that controls the series’s integral Chaos Emeralds. He is also the last member of his tribe, the Knuckles Clan.
As one of the most powerful characters in the Sonic universe, Knuckles’ strength can outpace Sonic’s speed several times over, especially if he uses his chaotic energy-based powers.
In Sonic 2 (or whatever it ends up being called), the echidna becomes an ally for Sonic and Tails as they seek to reclaim Earth from Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik. And now, Knuckles is getting his own live-action series at Paramount+, with Idris Elba returning to voice him.
Tom Wachowski is a Green Hills sheriff who becomes one of Sonic’s best friends and foster parents. He also tries to be a voice of reason for his young friend by discouraging him from using his powers in public.
Despite his serious nature, Tom has a sense of humor that can be a great asset in coping with the situation. He can be very inspiring, especially to Sonic.
He also shows that he is willing to do anything for his friend. He demonstrates his fatherly love towards Sonic after it seemed like the hedgehog was about to get killed by Robotnik, displaying his true character.
He goes along with Sonic to help him beat Robotnik and later becomes his foster father, though he is still a bit of a wise-cracking character. It’s a great role for him to play in the sequel, and it’s clear that Tom has grown a lot since his first appearance.
Maddie Wachowski (Tika Sumpter) is Tom and Sonic’s adoptive mother. When a power-awakened Robotnik lands on Green Hills, Tom and Maddie decide to help Sonic get off Earth.
During their adventure, Sonic discovers a new friend in the form of iconic twin-tailed fox Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), who also has a soft spot for Sonic. These three anthropomorphic creatures are so beautifully rendered you’ll forget they’re just CGI creations.
Meanwhile, Maddie’s sister Rachel (Natasha Rothwell) has found her own happiness. Instead of scheming to get rid of her brother-in-law, she accepts him and makes amends with him. She even helps to save Sonic and Tails from G.U.N. agents during their stay in San Francisco. This is a major shift for the character, which could have been very awkward given her relationship with Tom in the first film.
